Basic Intro
Prohibition is the term that outlaws the"manufacture, sale, and distribution of intoxicating liquors" which means prohibiting alcohol (but not DRINKING it so people found loopholes). Prohibition was a very important time in American (and maybe even world) history. It influenced the culture of the 1920s and later the Great Depression. Prohibition of alcohol started in the 1840s and became an Amendment in the Constitution in 1917. The law only lasted until 1933 when people were getting kinda mad. Prohibition overall helped lower the rates of people getting drunk but also had some bad consequences. Prohibition in part lead to gang activity and violence in the 1920s.
