A Very Good Place To Start...
When you think about prohibition you may think of flappers, speakeasies, and everything 1920's, but prohibition existed long before that time. In the 1820's, 100 years before prohibition era, a wave of religious revivalism swept over America. This resulted people thinking that alcohol was a destructive force in family and marriages. By the Civil War, a number of states passed prohibition laws by the Civil War. More states began to enforce prohibition laws. In 1917, Woodrow Wilson passed the 18th Amendment which outlawed the "manufacture, sale, and distribution of intoxicating liquors", but it didn't ban consumption which is where the 1920s come in.
