Vixen vs. Roll of Thunder
These books are totally different, different characters, different lifestyles, different time periods, but they are similar in some ways. They both have conflicts due to race such as the Logans being friends with Jeremy and Gloria being in love with Jerome. One other reason is that the Wallace Store sells bootleg liquor and so does the Green Mill.
Green MillIn Vixen, there is a speakeasy called the Green Mill. Gloria is engaged to Sebastian Grey who is trying to stop bootlegging and hates speakeasies. When Gloria asked Bastian to go to the Green Mill with her on page 58, he said "do you even know who owns these places? People connected to the Mob. They use these speakeasies as their offices for corruption."
Gloria Dating JeromeIn Vixen, Gloria is in love with Jerome even though shes engaged. But there's something even more scandalous, Jerome is black! When Gloria goes on a date with Jerome to his neighborhood, the coffee/hot chocolate lady tells her that they only serve dark drinks, BLACK DRINKS. That lady is a perfect example of how Jerome's community didn't really welcome Gloria.

Wallace StoreIn Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, there is the Wallace Store. The parents tell there kids to not go to the Wallace store for a few reasons, their racists, there is smoking up there, and there is...guess what...BOOTLEG LIQUOR! Cassie's dad even says it " Your mama tells me that a lot of older children going up to that Wallace Store after school to dance and buy their bootleg liquor and smoke cigarettes."
Jeremy Befriending the Logans
In Roll of Thunder, a white kid named Jeremy Simms befriends the Logan family even though his dad is a racist. Jeremy doesn't really care about race in that situation but his dad does, same way with Gloria and Jerome's relationship. Jeremy and the Logans and Gloria and Jerome have sort of a "forbidden relationship" where people say that they shouldn't see each other but they still hang out.
